WEBINAR

Adhesion and Dynamic Contact Angle Measurements – in natural and synthetic materials

DEC  12th, 2023, 04:00 PM - 05:00 PM CET

Join us to hear from Marieh Al-Handawi, who has earned her PhD in chemistry and materials science from New York University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 2022.

She is currently working as a postdoctoral associate in Naumov's Smart Materials Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi, where she is involved in various interdisciplinary projects related to the design, fabrication, and characterization of materials. Her main research interest is focused on the intersection between materials science and biology, where she investigates natural phenomena with possible applications to materials science, such as biomineralization, water harvesting technologies, and bioluminescence, and applies the underlying principles to bioinspired artificial materials.

In this webinar, she will discuss her research, in which the aim is to study and develop materials capable of capturing and harnessing atmospheric moisture. In order to gain insights into the condensation of water on surfaces and its interactions with them, a thorough understanding of the surface properties is essential.

Marieh will delve into specific examples of surface properties observed in both natural and synthetic materials, exploring how these properties were studied and how such surfaces can be an inspiration for creating devices.
